Portugal defeat Turkey 2-0

Published by Ron-Al-Do at 11:21 pm under International, UEFA

So Portugal defeated Turkey a couple of days ago in the second match of the Euro 08 competition. It was a well-balanced game even though Portugal held most of the possession. Turkey played well, especially Kazim Kazim who was always a headache down that right flank however Tuncay wasn’t effective at all and needs some bench time. Also there were a few dives which the ref really should have acted on as it’s the part of the game that needs to go.

In the end Real Madrid’s Pepe made a great run through the middle and finished a nice one-two to open the scoring and then Portugal made it two at the death to put the match beyond doubt. I’m still not sure why Quaresma didn’t make an appearance or even start. I guess Simao is very important because of his set-piece ability but Quaresma is a better winger. Towards the end of the match it made sense to add more defensive players to maintain the score I just hope he gets to play in the next match.

They were lucky but I think it was amazing what they managed to do. Very few teams have the strength to come back from 2-0 and win it 3-2 in the dying minutes. I have very impressed, much more than Sweden’s poor effort, trying to coast through to the next round, Russia punished them for it…
